I hated how in the Gotham live action series, they showed him as some incel who was pissed off that a woman who he worked with originally didn't like him because she was with an abusive douchebag, then freaked out when she went on a date with him because he was practically obsessed with her and was possessive of her, so she rejected him and he became a villain. It had nothing to do with his abilities like most of the villain origin stories, which explain where their powers/abilities come from.
